my kenmore elite he3 dryer won't turn on. It was working fine the other day and today when I pressed the power button, nothing happened. The drum light turns on

Kenmore Elite HE3 dryer model 110.8708. Brand new dryer (less then a year old). The power button does not work. I pressed it and it just doesn't turn on. The drum light turns on when I open the dryer door! I am bummed.

Thanks for the advice, but I just tested the Cycle Signal button and it worked as it was supposed to, so it appears that was not the problem. I did get the model #. It's 110.87872602. serial: MY2011797
This problem actually started a couple days ago. We tried pressing the power button several times over the course of four hours, and one time it actually worked. We dried a load of clothes. Then the next day (today) it doesn't work again. The power button still isn't doing anything, though the drum light works and the Cycle Signal button worked as it was supposed to. I was able to child-lock it and then un-child lock it. We don't have any ohm meter. Since we just bought it recently, we'd prefer not to start taking the machine apart on our own, and REALLY messing up the machine.

The drum light works but not much else.

The drum light would at least indicate there is voltage.

The start button should turn on the lights but you indicate it doesn't.

Check the Cycle Signal button. If it is pushed and held for several seconds it will toggle the "control lock" (child lock) feature on or off. If it is on then the buttons tend not to respond when touched.

If this button is stuck it might cause the trouble you're having.

If you have access to a volt/ohm meter I could provide you with instructions to access the main control and check voltage there.

The model number you submitted 110.8708 is only a partial number and brings up over 20 models.

With a complete model number I could help you further with instructions and illustrations to check this

problem.

From the followup information you don't seem to have a stuck or shorted keypad but from the description there is a control problem. If the power button is non responsive then you will need a technician to check and repair this problem.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:

Thanks Raquel F -the first thing I did was consult my manual. There was nothing in there to help out with this situation.

Hey Daniellelesko,
I understand it's frustrating not to have your dryer working. Whenever I need help trouble shooting I look in my manual and if by any chance you don't have an owner's manual then you can go to Manage My Life and click on the manuals button. I added the link below. Hope I was helpful!
