I want to replace the starter solenoid on Craftsman riding lawn mower. How do I remove the old one?

Craftsman lawn tractor 17.5 hp, 42 " mower, model #917.28805. Purchased March 2008 new

Lawn mower problems are sprouting like flowers this summer. Thank goodness for manuals and help sites. Since each mower may have different direction for part replacement, I find it helps to check the manual first. I found the model for your mower and attached the link below. Hope this helps!

Basically, most starters are bolted to the engine block with 2 bolts. You can usually remove the bolts and the starter will drop down for replacement. Sometimes you have to remove the blower housing or some shields to access and free the starter. Before you start, remove the negative battery wire from the battery. Place the wire so it won't come in contact with any metal on the product.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:
