Do I have to use the filter on my Kenmore refrigerator in order for it to continue working properly? I just installed a wholehouse filter system & don't need it

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, Model # l06.56662500 We recently installed a wholehouse water filter system & no longer need to filter the water coming thru the refrigerator, the system uses potassium instead of salt. We have to replace the current filter about every six months at $54.98 + tax. We consider the price excessive & since we have filtered water in the house, consider this an unnecessary procedure, inconvenience & expense. We wish to remove the filter, replace the cap as described in the warranty manual (under the heading: USING THE DISPENSER WITHOUT THE WATER FILTER CARTRIDGE) and continue to use the water & ice dispenser. Will this action harm the refrigerator, ice maker or dispenser?

You can run the dispenser and ice maker without a water filter cartridge installed as described in the User's manual.

To reinstall the cap after removing the filter cartridge:

Turn the cap counterclockwise (CCW) until the cap slips into attachment slot. Then, turn the cap clockwise (CW) until it is in a horizontal position.

: The cap will not be even with the base grill.
