how do I fill gap between house and patio,both cement,calk didn,t work

house and patio are both cement,some of the black space is still in there, cement would be too hard to do ,backer rod and calk just cracked now it looks worse,it was cement calk in a tube (a lot)

I think the the caulking was probably the right direction. But you may want to fill the under space with a filler rather than caulk. A good expanding poly-urathane foam like you use for windows will do. Or another good option is to just fill this space with the foam and let it dry foaming up over the gap and after it is dry cut the foam off with a sharp utensil. You could still put a very light coat of the caulk on top of the foam to give the appearance of it. Thanks BB
