My lawnmower's carborator is puffing out white smoke when I start it, how do I fix this?

Hi, I'm a fourteen year old who cuts my mothers lawn when it needs tending. I also go cutting lawns for a job. When we moved in our house our landlord loaned us her lawn mower. The lawn mower is a Craftsman Platinum 190cc 22" Briggs & Stratton Rear Bag Rear Propelled Lawn Mower. It is the best lawn mower I ever used. Two weeks ago, the lawn mower puffed out a little bit of smoke and I assumed that it was because I probably overfilled the tank. Today when I when to start the mower, the carborator blew out a lot of smoke. The amount of smoke coming from the carborator lowered, but it kept puffing out smoke. I would like to fix this because I don't want to return the landlords lawn mower in a bad state.

White smoke is caused by oil burning. I recommend checking the oil level. If the oil were over filled, it would cause the engine to smoke. Once you have the oil level set to the proper level check the air filter. If the engine was over filled with oil, it could have soaked the paper air filter with oil. If the air filter is soaked in oil or dirty, you need to replace it. Before installing the air filter start the mower and let it run fore a few minutes. This should clear all of the oil out of the carburetor and muffler. The mower should be done smoking at this point. If the smoking has stopped, reinstall the air filter. The mower should be back to normal. If you need any more help please submit more details
