3 prong dryer converting to a 4 prong outlet

Our Hotpoint dryer has a 3 prong cord and we moved into an apartment with a 4 prong outlet. We bought a 4 prong adapter from Sears, but we are having major difficulties in installing it. We definitely don't know what we are doing! Our dryer has a green cord, red cord, blue cord, and black cord. Our adapter has a green cord, red cord, white cord, and black cord. Can anyone give us directions on how to install it? We are having the most trouble with putting the forked prongs onto the corresponding color (we don't know how they are supposed to sit).

On something like this I recommend calling for service to make sure the dryer is connected properly. Here is a link for the website:

Sears Home Services

I have provided an image showing how the 4 prong power cord is connected compared to the 3 prong. Remember to

disconnect power

before accessing panels & use extreme caution when working with voltage.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
