How can I connect a 3 wire power cord to kenmore stove if the power cord is not color coded.

How can I attach a 3 wire power cord to kenmore stove if the power cord is not color coded. I need to connect the black wire of the power cord to black terminal on the stove, the same for the white and red. The white is not an issue because it is the middle wire. So it comes down to how to determine between the red and black wires of power cord if they are not identified?

Thanks gentelmen for the answers. Upon further reflection the fact it does not matter how the two outer wires are position on the stove is because of the AC current. To Sears, please rewrite your installation guide for people like me who are not electricians, but are capable of attaching three wires onto the stove and try to follow the directions to prevent problems. Maybe try color coding the wires like the installation guide claims it should have. Something so simple as this does not need to be so complicated. Sears wanted to charge me $60 to attach the power cord. Thats $20 per wire. Come on Sears you can be little more consumer friendly. Can you tell that I am a liitle frustrated over this?

Thank you for your question.

I can see that you want to get the wiring right on your range connection.

On the 3 wire hook up if you have the middle wire of the power cord on the center terminal,of the white wire connection of the terminal block the other two wires do not matter onto which terminal you put them on. Because this is a flat grey cord the two outer wires are the two 120 volt lines to the outer terminals on the terminal block.

So if the cord is right side up or upside down, as long as the center wire in the cord is on the center connection on the range the Black and Red do not matter which outside terminal they are on.

I hope this helps.

I understand how important it is to connect your three prong wires safely to the outlet. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that will provide you with more information about the problem you are having. I hope my link is useful.
