why won't the door on my kenmore washer lock shut?

Model number 417 44052400 serial XC54423643 The door must lock shut before the machine will start. why will the door not lock shut?

From what you described I suspect the door lock assembly needs replaced. This model of washer has a diagnostic mode that will display an error code by flashing & beeping of the control. You will have to set the control up into a diagnostic test mode in order to review the stored error code. I am sending you the test mode set up & error code list with troubleshooting & testing tips. Please see the image in the attachment provided below for instructions.

Remember to

disconnect power

before attempting access into the machine.
