Since the water does not leak when the ice maker is off, the water valve is probably not causing this problem. The image below shows how to adjust the water fill level and test cycle the ice maker. You may need to reduce the fill level using this information. This may help you resolve this leaking issue. If you still think that the ice mold is cracked, you can UNPLUG the refrigerator and remove the ice maker by taking out (or loosening) the screws that attach it to the side wall of the freezer. You may need to unplug the wiring harness if you are going to pull it all of the way out. Check the fill tube that protrudes into the freezer as well. You may also need to check the fill cup at the back of the ice maker for a crack. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

Lyle, thanks for the suggestions, here are a couple key things:
when i break off the ice chunk and leave it in the off position it doesn't seem to leak.
the ice comes out formed properly and never has trouble dumping it

how difficult is it to remove to check for a crack compared to how would i fill it to see if there is a crack in the mold?

I cannot tell from the picture whether the leak is caused by a failed water valve or a crack in the ice mold. If you are able to

unplug the refrigerator

and remove the ice maker, you can check the mold for a crack. If you see water constantly dripping from the fill tube then a failed water valve is likely causing your problem. If you shut off the water supply and the leaking stops, then this can verify that you have a leaking supply valve for the ice maker.

If you see not visible problem with the ice mold but suspect that it is leaking, you can keep the water shut off and manually fill the ice mold to see if water still leaks out of it.

These tips may help you determine the cause of your problem.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.
