Sewing machine bobbin winder won't turn

I have a kenmore sewing machine model 158.1792184. I can't wind the bobbin. The bobbin winder shaft doesn't turn. I don't know if it is the ring part 61662 that is worn out or there is something wrong with the bobbin winder part 57742B. I have taken the top cover plate off the bobbin shaft and wheel turn freely. The bobbin winder latch moves easily but when the top cover plate is put back on the bobbin winder shaft nor does the wheel turn when the hand wheel is pushed in or out. Please help.

I am assuming the sewing machine is sewing ok.

Look on your parts diagram or go to

searspartsdirect.com&MML=MMLxexpertxmerch

to see a parts diagram of the sewing machine.

Look on the "bobbin winder and top panel" page. Item 18 is the bobbin winder. When you move the bobbin winder latch over the bobbin winder should pivot and the rubber band (item 19) should run on the inside of the hand wheel.

You should be able to tell by looking which parts are worn.

Bobbins are the most important part on a sewing machine and prevents from making nice things or sometimes even repairing clothing. I have taken some time to research your question and noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!
