TV picture went out but I can still listen to it. TV is a Westinghouse Model # LTV-32w4HDC, Type No. SLT32D.

TV picture went out but I can still listen to it. TV is a Westinghouse Model # LTV-32w4HDC, Type No. SLT32D. Technician said it is the T-Con & would check price for parts with Westinghouse. Westinghouse does not have this part at the moment and that they could not give him a price until the part is available. The Tech said that now it seems as Westinghouse is not selling this T-Con separately anymore that this T-con is now sold with the screen attached???? First, what is this T-con? I have called the Tech today so that I can get better clarification of what this T-Con is and waiting for him to return my call. In the meantime, he is waiting on Westinghouse. So, I thought I would do my own research and see if I could order and find out the cost of this part, possibly through Searsdirect.com, or some other place. I contacted Sears Direct and they where not sure since we are unsure of what T-Con is. Would it possibly be the power board assembly? Could you tell me what this is?

At any rate, I gave a $50 deposit which will be applied towards parts and labor and the tech said the cost would be around $220.00 total, but that was before he found out that the T-con has to be bought with the screen, or that is the way Westinghouse is selling it, which doesn't make sense or is this part now attached to the screen????

I would love clarification on this and any advice you can suggest. With the prices of TV's that are a lot less, I could actually by an RCA TV/Combo DVD, same 32 with 60 hz, as what mine is, a sale price of $409.00 plus tax. For $200 more I could buy a brand new TV. However $200 is $200. But the price to repair now may be over $220 if you have to buy this part with the screen, which doesn't make sense. I do believe the Tech is honest, but one can never tell. I am waiting to hear back from him so I can do more research and perhaps I could order the part myself and a manul to do it myself.

Thank you & appreciate your help.

Kind Regards,

Donna

Thanks for your help once more Dusty. I spoke with the Technician and he said that in the past he has ordered parts from where you led a link and although the parts are under warranty for the first, 90 days I believe, that he has had these parts not last very long and back to having a non workable tv. He recommends just to buy a new one. What do you think? Oh, as a matter of fact, the tv you suggested was nice, the RCA LCD combo DVD, was one that I was looking at in the event that I wanted to replace it, or wondering if I should go with another Sony Bravia. We love our Sony in the living room that is on the wall above the fireplace and a much larger screen, but or the den, we don't really need to go elaborate, but on the other hand, it may be better to invest in on TV that we know may last longer. What is your opionion on this. I thank you kindly in advance for all your time and help. I do value your opinion. Have a great day.
Kind Regards,
Donna

I understand doing the repair yourself might be cheaper, but in this case I would recommend to allow the Technician to complete the repair. The manual for this TV does not show how to replace the T-Con board because Westinghouse original did not intend on it being able to be replaced. There are several parts that would have to be removed prior to installation on the T-Con board.

Hi Dusty,

I see that I can buy the part that you linked me to for $49.00. I am wondering if I should purchase it and wonder I could do this job myself with a manual, which I understand I can get a manual sent through this website? I am new to this site. If so, I may just tell the technician that I will do it myself. I have already paid him $50.00 deposit and the total charge for labor is $120.00 + part. Should I just let him complete the job or should I attempt to do this with a manual. My husband could also probably do it with a manual, I know that he can for he is very handy. Thanks

Hi Dusty, I've been so busy that I forgot to check back on more answers. Thank you very much. The Tech is trying to find a part for me but he said that Westinghouse is not offering the part separately, (the T-Con), but only selling it with the screen????? That would be very expensive, so in that case, it's best to buy a new TV. I appreciate all the info and your time and expertise. I now wish that I had stuck with buying two Sony Bravias, which we bought a larger Sony for the liviung room. For the den, we selected a less expensive brand and sorry we did. However, I think due to the back of the tv collecting dust, which I was unaware of could have caused this problem. The tech is now trying to find a part and I believe he located one though E-bay and asking the seller if there is a guarantee, but the seller has not yet returned his call.

I think at this point, I may just go ahead and purchase a new TV and would like a combo and will check the RCA you recommended and/or perhaps see if they have an LCD HDTV/DVD Combo in Sony or Panasonic but hope the RCA is up to standards. I will compare prices.

Thanks again.

There are only 2 possible problems with your TV that could cause it to have sound, but no video. When the TV is turned on the screen goes form black to gray then the T-con board would be the issue. If the screen never turns a gray tint the screen itself would need to be replaced. Most LCD TV’s the T-con board is part of the LCD screen and have to be replaced as one part. I was able to find a part number for the T-Con board of

35-D010611

. But new parts are not available, part for your TV would be used or refurbished.

The

RCA 32 in. Class 720p LCD HDTV/DVD Combo

would be a nice TV.

Hello Joseph,

Thanks so much for your input and links and I certainly appreciate your time and effort in responding to my inquiry. Actually earlier on today before I joined managemylife.com, I googled and came up with one of the websites you sent which was searspartsdirect. I called and they were willing to help. I talked to the tech who is trying to order the part, which he did locate. The part that I need is called the T-Con Board, which he now has ordered. Now, I am wondering if I could have done this myself with the help of managemylife.com and if I could have a manual sent to me. I figured it can't be that difficult to remove a part and insert another and put the screws back on myself. The tech did locate this part without having to go through Westinghouse, which they were going to make him buy the T-Con Board with the screen, which doesn't make sense. Since I have already started with hiring to have this tech fix the tv for me, and since he has already ordered the part, I will let him complete the work. However, in the future, I will use this site and obtain manuals for other repair work, etc. In the mean time, I will check out the other site you refered me to. Thanks ever so much again and I hope I can help you with one of your questions or concerns in the future. :~) Have a great evening. P.S. Well, I guess in the future I will only order Sony Brands. Four years ago, we did a major remodel and bought two flat screen tv. We spent more for the living room, which was an HDTV, Sony Bravia LCD around $1,500 and the one that went out was a Westinghouse HD/combo DVD. The tech said that the reason why the picture went out was where dust had collected behind the TV, preventing the right ventilation. I still think that in the future, we may just stick to Sony.

I know how expensive it can be to have to make a major repair on a television, I watch t.v most of my day so I hope to be of some help to you. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link in where you can enter your model number and a parts list diagram will pop up so that you can see the price of the part you are looking for: searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action. I also managed to find a link that will provide you with more information about your problem: managemylife.com/mmh/questions/191622-my-lcd-television-screen-went-black-but-the-sound-still-works-what-could-be-causing-this. I hope my links are useful.
