My Sony Projection TV's red lamp light is blinking

My Sony model KDS-50A2000 TV won't turn on. When I press the power button, the green power light comes on and flashes for approx. 30 seconds then the red lamp light starts flashing. No picture or no sound. I checked the bulb with an ohm meter for continuity and there was none but didn't know if there should have been. Could this just be the bulb or does this describe another problem?

The lamp inside your TV is a

mercury vapor lamp

. It cannot be checked like a traditional light bulb. The lamp can be replaced and you should be back to watching TV. The lamp part number is F93088600.

Most common error for this model would be the power supply, but could possible be other portions of the TV. The power supply part number is A1186654B and a link below for ordering. Or you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Second link below.

The Lamp Replacement option needs to be set. To get to this option:

1. Turn the TV on.
2. Press the menu button.
3. Select setup.
4. Scroll down to Lamp Replacement and select.

This should rest the internal timer and the Lamp life error message should not appear again.
