Replace door latch assembly on kenmore dishwasher

Kenmore Elite Dishwasher, Mod:665.16299402, Ser: FS4401400. Won't start. When push "start" button in blinks 3 times and goes off. Tried unpluging and opening and shutting the door. No change. Would like to see how difficult it is to replace the "door latch assembly", or if you have any ideas how to fix it without getting a new assembly. Thanks.

Roger: The control panel should detach from the inner door panel by separating the two. It should just drop down. You may have to gently pry outwards on the control panel.

How do you get the control panel off after you take the 6 screws out.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Generally speaking, when the "Start" button LED flashes three times when pushed indicates that the control is not seeing the door opened after a completed cycle. The door switch is likely faulty and stuck closed. You can test the door switch by disconnecting the two wires and then test the switch operation with an ohm meter. The door switch is part #8269209 which is replaceable.

I added instructions on how to access and remove the door switch in the image below.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the dishwasher before servicing your dishwasher.

You can order the door switch at

Sears Parts Direct

.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:

It's always a good idea to research how to attach certain things. I was able to locate a very helpful link that will help you change the latch.
