Hi Fred M.
Thank you for the response. I actually found the problem. I removed the handle and dirt sensor panel. I found the line cord insulation cracked and very brittle. When you moved the handle while running the vacuum the insulation began to cut into the wire and it eventually cut through. I think the spark was from the wire arcing when it was cut. I repaired the wire and we're back using the vacuum. Thanks for your help.

I'm curious where the spark seem to come from. From the description you give either the motor is bad or the control board is.

If the spark came from the handle then the control is most likely at fault.

If the spark came from the base then the motor is most likely at fault.

Be sure you turned the unit off and unplug it to let everything cool down.

I hope this information is helpful to you but give me a reply where the spark seem to come from and I’ll try a help you further with this problem.

I know how important it is to have a good working vacuum cleaner in your home so that your rug will stay nice and clean. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I suggest you look in your owners manual in the troubleshooting pages. Below is a link in where you can enter your model number and your owners manual will pop up. I hope my link is useful.
