Why is my Ice Maker have ice building up on the chute that delivers the water to the ice maker?

My Ice Maker has ice building up on the chute AND around it that delivers the water to the ice maker. The on/off arm is in the off position. It is a Kenmore 106.53582300. I had a previous problem where it built up just in the chute - I defrosted it and it was good to go. Not so much now. Please help!

I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding. The information you received is good for this problem. However, when this icemaker fill tube freezes, the water valve # 4389177 will need to be replaced. This is the valve located in the back of the unit, behind the panel cover. It's available at the link listed below. I'm also attaching a picture explaining how the water connections work on this valve. I hope this will help you. Again I'm sorry I misunderstood the question and if you need more assistance, I will be glad to assist you further.

Sorry Scott, but I think you missed a key point in the question. The build up is on and all around the chute that delivers the water to the ice maker, not the chute for the ice. Thus I have a sort of glacier forming on the back wall of the freezer where the water chute is/was. To me it seems like there is a slow trickle of water that remained flowing allowing for more and more ice build up back there. Maybe the on/off switch and/or valve that allows water in to the ice maker aren't working?
I've since turned off the water from the supply. This is good since no more new ice will be forming but now, obviously, I don't get water for drinking on the front of the fridge.
For now iceless and waterless.

I'm sorry you are having this problem. The information you have received is good but is for a different type of problem. The most common cause for the chute icing is, from using mainly crushed ice. The small ice particles will not all come out and will eventually build up and clog the chute. To correct this problem just use cubes periodically to flush the chute. I hope this helps you. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.

If the water line for your refrigerator is freezing up I am sure that the ice maker will not be working properly. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a great link that describes a similar problem to the one that you are having. I hope my link is useful.
