does my kenmore 90 series model 110.28902790 have a belt so that the cycle spins?! Confused!"

Everything works fine except the spin cycle. It fills with water, agaitates, drains, the lid clicks the down fine, but it just wont spin. Does it need a new belt because i seen a small belt on the bottom of the washer. I accidently pulled it off. Thinking it was the belt that needed to be replaced. Please help! looked at similar answers to my question but all say it does not have a belt . Why is it that my washer has a small belt by the transmission?

i have a kenmore 70 series older 11082671820 just started having problem with the spin cycle. It would spin slowly sometimes, go off balance, make loud noise. not quite drain completely all the water. also, started to leak alittle during the spin cycle. So we took it apart. ordered parts that we thought needed. Replaced them put it back together, and it all runs except the spin. It goes straight in to the off balance thing. Clumping shaking and loud, not spinning. we tried with and with out water, and also with without clothes. Can you point us in the direction of what we are not seeing, or getting? Missing something to keep it balanced? Hope a trick that we aren't aware of?Thank you for your time and help in advance, Cathy

Thank you for the update. The cost of the transmission is about $190.00 and the labor to install is about $160.00. So the total cost is about $350.00 and at the age of your washer you may want to think about replacing rather than repairing.

The half life of washers is 7 years so you are reaching the normal life span of the average top load washer. If the cost of the repair is half or more of the replacement than I would suggest that you replace.

I hope this will help with your decision.

How much do you think it would cost to purchase a transmission for my washer? Do you think it would be better off having a technician looking at the washer or purchasing a new washer? Ive had my washer for about 13 years and never had trouble with it until recently.
Thanks Sam A and James R for your quick response and help! :)

Thank you for your question.

I can understand being confused and concerned about you washer not working in spin.

No! Your washer does not have a drive belt. It has a drive coupling. What you found was a foam rubber sound dampener for the brake drum to help reduce noise. This is not a critical part.

If your washer does the pump out but will not spin, have you lifted the lid on the washer after the water has pumped out and then closed it again to see if it will start spinning?

If it does start spinning it is the timer.

If it does not start to spin when you close the lid it is the pawl in the transmission that is not resetting to the spin position like it normally should when the motor pauses between pump out and spin. This would require transmission replacement.

If you can give me an update as to what you discover, then I will be glad to help you further if you want to do a repair of the washer.

I hope this will help.
