my dehumidifier leaks water

My Kenmore Elite Dehumidifier that I purchased within the last year has begun leaking from somewhere near the front at the bottom. I use the bucket for collecting the water and empty it when it is full. The modes number is 251.90701

My previous Kenmore Dehumidifer did the same thing but it was after about 6 years of use before it started so i just figured it had run its course.

I'm sorry you are having this problem. You have already received some very good information. If this is being used in a low ambient location (below 65 degrees), the coils will probably ice up and can cause this water leak. If this is not the case and you have had it less than a year, I recommend having a technician check it under warranty. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out or for the nearest drop off location. Here is a link for the website:

After two years, my Kenmore Elite dehumidifier just began doing this. It had the whole corner of the living room soaked before we caught it. We ended up buying another humidifier to replace it, but wonder if the old one can be fixed. It still works, other than putting the water on the floor. It's a wonder it didn't short something out and cause a fire!

Most of the water never reaches the bucket, or hose drain. It starts leaking out of the machine above the ports for the garden hose and pump drain lines.

The humidifier has been in our living room, 75 to 80 degrees, usually 77. It worked great up until now.

Is there anything we can do to repair it? It costs $40 just to get an estimate!!!

If this is the same model as the one listed, it would seem that there may be a problem with the drain tray under the evaporator. To check this, the front panel will need to be removed. Now, pour some water in the drain tray, to see if you can find where the water is leaking. I hope this will help you. I hope this will help you.

I realize this is kind of an old thread, but maybe this will help future users.
I have this same dehumidifier and just had the same problem with water leaking out of the front bottom of the unit and couldn't find any solutions online to fix it.

It turned out that the drain was clogged with gunk and it worked fine when I cleaned it out. Here's how to do it.
- remove the bucket
- this model has a pump drain on the left and a gravity drain on the right right above the bucket , the gravity drain is where the water enters the bucket, this is where I found the clog.
- I used the end of a zip tie to knock out the gunk and the water flowed freely

I hope this helps!
