the oven bake element will not turn off and the oven indicator light stays on all the time

Kenmore stove model # 362.91112001/ sn # 1R182606P I had the bake element go out on me awhile back. While waiting for the new element to arrive the kids turned the oven on and the two wires grounded out tripping the breaker. when we reset the breaker the oven indicatior light will not go out it is always glowing red. when the new element arrived I turned off the breaker and installed it, when I turned the breaker back on the element automatically comes on... wide open and you can not adjust the temperature or turn it off with the oven knob. I ended up turning the breaker off and when it cooled down I unhooked the new element so we can still use the stove top. What part does it sound like is messed up... would it be the clock timer part # WB27K10028? If not what and how do I need to check to find out what eles may be wrong.
Thanks
Robert

Thank you for the reply. Can I check the thermostat with a volt meter to make sure that is the problem before I order parts? and if so how would I go about checking it?

When the wires shorted to ground they probably welded the contacts in the thermostat together.

The thermostat opens the contacts and turns the bake and broil elements off and on when you are cooking in the oven.

To repair the range you need to replace the oven thermostat. The part number of the thermostat is WB20K10004, and the price is $99.74.

Having problems with your Oven can be frustrating especially when its an appliance we use on a daily base. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, a suggestion I have is to visit Sears Home Services website to set service with a Sears technician. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!
