Is my Maytag refrigerator keyboard/touchpad fixable?
I have a Maytag french door refrigerator model #MFD2561HEW. The keyboard/touchpad is not functioning. But the LCD temperature readout on the keypad does work and it correctly displays the freezer and frigerator temperatures. Therefore, I cant adjust the temperature settings because the touchpad is unresponsive to touch. The refrigerator and freezer are running cold and at the manufacturer default settings. In addition, the ice maker is not working. But I dont use it anyway. What do you think the source of the problem is? Do I need a new Keyboard part #Y67005640 or do you think I need a new Control Board part #67005397 or substitute #W10207861? There is no visible damage to any refrigerator part. In your experience as a service tech out in the field... and with the symptoms I described... what do you think needs replaced? The Keypad, Control Board or something else???

I know how important it is to have good working refrigerator in the home so that you can keep your goods nice and fresh. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that will provide you with some good troubleshooting tips. I hope my link is useful.
It was helpful. I think the cause may be the control board and not the main HV control board. But I will do a little more research before I make this decision. Thanks for your help!
I'm sorry you are having this problem. You have received some good information from Joseph for a similar problem. The problem you're describing is normally caused by a faulty main control board. The main control board (behind the unit) controls all the functions of this refrigerator. It's possible the display board may have failed but it's very unlikely. This problem is usually always due to a main board failure. To get the correct parts for this refrigerator, the serial number will be needed. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful.
Thank you for your assistance! The Maytag Serial Number is #10307058GN. Model Number is #MFD2561HEW. I purchased it on 10/22/05. It is the 25 cubic feet white french door with ice maker located in freezer and water dispensor inside refrigerator and not on the outside door. If I do need the main control board as you suggested would this be the right part name and number...MAYTAG HV CONTROL BOARD #12782036SP
I replaced the MAYTAG HV CONTROL BOARD part #12782036SP and also the Control Board part #67005397. Two different parts and still my refigerator touch pad / keyboard is unresponsive to touch. Therefore, the only remaining part to replace would be the Keyboard / touchpad part #Y67005640. If this does not work what else could be the problem? I am totally frustrated! Oh, one other thing... I had to remove both french doors so that this frig would fit through the laundry room door. Upon removing the left door there were wires that ran from the top of the frig down inside the door. These wires are hidden within the top frig door hinge and run down into the door. I accidently dropped the door and the door was hanging only by the wires. What do these wires go to? Do you think this could be the problem as to why the touch pad is not functioning? Do you think that I disconnected the wires inside the door when it slipped from my hands? If this is the problem...how do I open the left door to access an reconnect these wires? Please help. Thanks Mitch
Forget about my previous post. The refrigerator is now mysteriously working once the refrigerator reached the default temperature of 40 degrees. The touch pad is totally responsive. Therefore, the main control board in back of the frig was the source of the problem. Your diagnosis was correct. Thanks for your assisance, Mitch
Ok...Now my refrigerator keyboard/touchpad is back to being non responsive to touch. Please read May 4th post and let me know what you think the problem is. Thanks very much, Mitch
From the information listed, I suspect you have a loose wire connection. It could be at the main board or at the touchpad. Disconnect power to the unit and check the wires for a poor connection. Sometimes, trying to find a loose wire connection can be very difficult. The wires on the left door are for the center mullion (# 10 in picture). The wires go to the heater inside the mullion and they will not have any affect on the touchpad. If you cannot locate the wiring problem, you may need to have a technician check it. You can call 1-800-469-4663 to have a tech come out. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.
