My lawn mower won't stay running.

I have a Craftsman 21HP LT1000, Model No. 917.273513, purchased in the fall of 2004. I have replaced the spark plug, fuel filter, fuel pump, two air filters, oil change and oil filter. My lawn mower will start and stay running without the breather cover but when I put the breather cover back on it quicks. Can you tell me what might be wrong with it?

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with your tractor. By what you have stated I suspect there is an air supply to the engine with the cover on. I recommend removing the air filter and the pre filter below the regular filter. Then cover the opening of the carburetor and blow the area out with compressed air. If the area under the pre filter is plugged up it can cause this problem. Once the area is clean, reinstall the cover and test the operation. If the engine runs, reinstall the two filters and check the operation. If it chokes the engine out, the problem is the filters are too restrictive. If the filter is an after market filter that could be the problem. I recommend only using factor replacement parts.

Here is a link to order any parts you need.
