I must assume the shipping base has been removed as described in the installation instructions. You may want to lean the washer back and make a visual inspection to see if the shipping base has been removed.
Your new Whirlpool washer is a new designed washer. It will not sound or operate like any other type of Whirlpool top loading washer.
You will hear the hum of the sensing spin modes after you start the washer. This is normal. Sensing spins will take several minutes before water is added to the washer.
There is nothing likely wrong with your new Whirlpool washer. If you feel that there is something wrong with your new Whirlpool washer I recommend calling for service.
