How can I get my dog to stop licking the sofa?

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

We have a 7-year old female Boston Terrier who seems to enjoy licking fabric. This isn't something new; she's been this way for as long as we've owned her (nearly a year). She's constantly licking our sofa and her bed. I don't mind so much about her bed, but I do mind the sofa. Any suggestions? A friend uses these mats with plastic spikes on them to keep her dog from getting on the couch, but there's now way I'll use those. In fact, I don't mind that she's on the couch, but I'd prefer that she not lick it!
