My new Craftsman wet/dry vac is blowing dust out of the blowing port and is very loud. I just cleaned the filter.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand your concern when the vacuum seems loud and there is dust coming out of the exhaust port.

To reduce the noise you may want to install a muffler accessory designed for the vacuum. It plugs into the exhaust ports and greatly reduces the sound level.

Your concern with the dust blowing out the exhaust can be caused by the filter not docked correctly onto the filter cage nub.

Also you may consider using the Hepa style filter, part number 17912, Rather than the 17916 regular filters. You could also install the cloth bag over the filter to further reduce the exhaust dust that is getting through the filter.

I hope this will help with your vacuum.

Having problems with your tool is annoying at times. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, a suggestion I have is to set service with a Sears technician. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!
