Why is my compressor staying so hot on my upright freezer?

I have a freezer model# 25323425100 3 days ago I went to get something out and everything was thawed out.
I could not touch the compressor it was so hot, I put a box fan blowing on the compressor and the temperture got back down to below freezing it has been that way for 3 days but the compressor is still so hot you can't touch it. Is there a part I can get to fix this problem?

This fan will cycle on and off with the compressor. It's not difficult to install and will come with instructions. The compressor should not be affected unless this problem lasted for several days. There is really no way to make this type of determination, as long as the compressor is working. All of the freezers I checked do not have a condenser fan already installed. I recommend checking with the local retail store, to see if the features include a condenser fan motor.

This fan you are recomending does it run all the time or is it wired in to go off when the compressor goes off? If so is this something I can do or will I need a repairman to install? Also, do you think the compressor getting that hot my not last very long? If so is there a freezer model that comes with a fan that will work in an area ortside in my shop better?

It's difficult to say without actually seeing the situation. I know it may seem strange now after all this time but by placing the box fan there, so air flows across the compressor and it started cooling again, does indicate a lack of air flow or that the area may be warmer than before. The fan motor listed will help correct this type of problem. If you would like more assistance, please let me know and I will be glad to assist you further. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

This freezer is in the same place it has been for the last 5 years. I have never had this problem before and it is no hotter this year than before. It is in my shop which is not air conditioned but the walls and ceiling have insulation, four windows stay open all the time.
I'm not saying rhis isn't the problem could the age 5 years old make it heat up more that normal?

I can understand your concern. You have received some good general information from Joseph. This model does not have a condenser fan motor and if the unit is in an area that gets warm or if it's in an enclosed area, the compressor can get hot and quit running. There is an add on fan kit # 5304411775 that will help correct this type of problem. It's available at

SearsPartsDirect

. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.

What causes the thermal protectors to trip can it be a faulty protector or is something causing my freezer to get to hot?
