My new stove oven gave off strong smell when I used it for first time this morning? What is it and will this pass?

Model #7907242013 Kenmore gas self cleaning range

Bought stove 2 weeks ago. Only used stove top to heat stuff. This morning I tried the broiler/oven for first time.

I pushed 'Broil" button to high. Heat came on. I placed a couple pieces of cheese bread on clean cookie sheet and broiled them for a couple of minutes.

When done, I removed bread and hit "Stop" and oven/broiler turned off. Then I noticed a VERY STRONG ODOR which has now filled the house coming the stove.

I have a headache from it. I opened up windows and then ran a short errand. When I returned 20 minutes later and opened the front door, I was HIT with this odor.

Smells metallic, like something new burning for first time? I wish I could give a better description of the smell. I just want to know that I will be SAFE with this thing.

Please advise.

I can understand your concern with this toxic smell coming from a new oven. I located a previous expert answer that may help answer those concerns while your expert reviews your model. I attached the link below. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand your concern for the odor the oven is giving off when you used it for the first time.

This odor will go away after use but you can get the odor to go away faster by putting in a 2 hour self to get the entire insulation sizing to dissipate with the high temperature of the short self clean cycle.

You are right it is the newness of the range that is burning off and setting the insulation around the oven liner.

You will need to have plenty of air circulation by opening some windows during the short clean cycle.

This is a common occurrence with new ranges as the manufacturing odors dissipate. The odor seems stronger on some models for some reason. Once you have done the short clean cycle it should not be near as noticeable and then dissipate completely over a short time of oven use.

If a strong odor continues after the self clean cycle is done during your normal oven use and while it is under warranty you can have the burner check to see that it is getting good clean combustion.

If you have any exotic birds or animals in the house make sure they are isolated in a location where the odor will not be so strong.

I hope this will help.
