Should my Kenmore Dehumidifier 50701 ever shut off if it is set on auto and I am using the drainage hose?

We have the humidity set at 50% off and it has been in the basement with the drainage hose going into the sump pump since 6/24/11. Ranch house about 1100 square feet with full basement, furniture in all rooms and some furniture in basement. It does not appear to have shut off at all since it was turned on. We prefer to use the drainage hose as opposed to the bucket so that the home's owner, our elderly mother, does not have to deal with emptying the bucket.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know if the dehumidifier will every shut off.

When the dehumidifier has gotten all the humidity in the home including all the furnishings it will shut off. Since you have it on the auto setting the fan will continue to sample the air for humidity and then turn the compressor on and off as needed to maintain the 50% humidity level you have it set for.

So it could be off but the fan running to sample the air. It is hard to tell the difference between when the fan is running and compressor is on also.

If you have not had a dehumidifier in the house prior to this it can take up to 2 weeks to get everything in the house down to 50% humidity level.

Since the home has a full basement it will run more frequently then if it was a home without a basement.

The weather is also a contributing factor in you have hi humidity outside the home.

If you have a flow of water coming out of the hose going to the floor drain in the basement then it is doing exactly what it needs to do no matter how much it is running.

I hope this information will help.

When it comes to needing to know questions on your Dehumidifier owner's manuals are the best thing to turn to. While you are waiting on an expert to answer your question, I took some time to search your model number and found your owner's manual. I have attached the link below. Hope this helps!
