whirlpool ceramic stove top burner not staying on.

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

model RF362LZXtQ 3
serial RW0916081.

When I am cooking the burner turns off like would have it set at a low temp. I can not boil or fry on this burner. It does not get hot enough. It did work when it was new. The unit is 2 years old. This burner has a dual control for small or larger pots. I looked under the stove top and it has several compontents and not sure which one needs replaces or do I need to replace the coil.

There are no adjustments on the limiters. If the limiter is malfunctioning, the burner normally needs to be replaced. Some elements may have a separate limiter that can be purchased and installed instead of replacing the whole element assembly. Accessing the element under that smooth glass top is a challenging task in that type of range. If you are certain that you have a problem, reply with the full model number and serial number of your range so that we can look at the parts that may be needed.

Lyle, Thanks for the feedback
I will need to test some. My pot has a good flat bottome and fits the circumference of the burner exactly. It takes it 20-30 minutes to boil enough water for 1lb of pasta. Very Annoying. It will shut the burner off, even though the water is not boiling. Pick up thepot and you will see the whole burner heat up.

I will try the same pan on the other burner as well as different pans on this one.
Can these limiter switches be adjusted at all?

Hello Troy. That element has a temperature limiter that will cycle the burner off when it reaches a certain point to protect the glass cook top. The burner may be working normally even though it keeps cycling off as you describe. See if the burner works properly with other pots or pans on it with less of a load. If it works normally, then the situation with heating that water on for the pasta is probably normal. If the burner is not heating properly with other pots and pans on it, then you will probably need to replace that burner element. The high temperature limiter is a component inside the element. If you need more help, reply with additional details and the full model number and serial number of your Maytag range.

Hi

I would like to jump in: I have a maytag MER 7765 that appears to do the same thing with a good Claphalon pot that fits the burner exactly, the outer part of the element turns on and off repeatedly. It takes this burner FOREVER to boil a pot of water for 1 lb of pasta. Guy in store said something about adjustment of sensor. Just wondering if this is something I can manage to fix my self.

The element has a temperature limiter that could be causing the burner to cycle at too low of a temperature. This seems to be what you are describing. To fix that type of issue, you would need to replace that element (part 8523047). Be sure that you

unplug the range

before accessing internal components.

If you replace that element and still have the same problem, then you will need to replace that infinite burner switch in the console (part 9758060). Be sure that you

unplug the range

before accessing internal components.

You can order parts from the

Sears PartsDirect

website.

Your details seem to indicate that you can access the components. If you need more help, let us know.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:
