The LCD function on my Kenmore Microwave control panel is no longer working, why?

Model number 721.80802400.

I cannot find this part. Is it part of the controller part? If so can I put it in by myself? Can a service person just put in an lcd? or can I just buy an LCD?

Microwave repair is often beyond most consumers. I would not work on mine with all the warnings on the unit. While you wait for the expert if you decide you would like an experienced technician to diagnose and make repairs, an option is the Sears Home Services link below.

If the LCD screen has failed, the control board #2006 on the diagram below (P/N 6871W1S387A- $164.57), will need to be replaced. Microwaves are not good do-it-yourself projects. On something like this I recommend calling a service company to install the control board. A service technician is trained to use extreme caution when working with an unplugged microwave. Even with the unit unplugged from power some components hold a charge of up to 25,000 volts. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair. Labor alone will usually run $130, so you could be looking at an estimated total repair cost of around $300. You may consider purchasing a new unit instead of having the current one replaced. Service can be scheduled at the following link:
