Replace slide-in range?

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I am redoing my kitchen and have a slide-in range. If the measurements are similar, can I replace the slide-in with one that is free-standing?

The answer to your question is yes. You can replace your slide in range with a free standing unit. However, the free standing range will take up more space due to the side panels making it wider, slide in units do not require to have the side panels due to the fact that it's required to be in between the cabinets. You will also need a little more space between your new free standing range and the cabinets to prevent any fires. Please be sure to take the right measurements to prevent any frustration.

I don't have a model #; I'm asking for general knowledge. The opening in my kitchen is 30.5 inches; current slide-in width measures 30 inches. I'm assuming that I can buy a free-standing range with similar measurements to my slide-in as a replacement.
I realize there are cosmetic concerns, e.g., counter-top fit, etc., but assuming those concerns can be taken care of, can the free-standing range replace the slide-in?
