Kenmore Washing Machine won't drain

I have a Kenmore Elite Washing Machine, model no. 110.24932200. It does not drain anymore. The washing machine still agitates and fills, but will not remove the water to complete the cycle. What part is needed? Is this something I can change myself?

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your washer.

By what you have stated, it sounds like a lid switch (part number 3949238) failure. The lid switch has to be closed for the drain and spin cycle on your washer to work. If the lid switch is faulty, it will fill and wash but nothing else.

A quick check you can do is to bypass the lid switch and see if it will drain. If the washer operates, the lid switch needs to be replaced.

To bypass the lid switch you need to

unplug the washer

and open the console. Here ia a video that will demonstrate gaining access to the lid switch;

. Once you have the console open, locate the connector for the lid switch. Place an insulated piece of wire between the two colored wires (see image below), not the green it is a ground and will cause a short. After inserting the bypass make sure it will not touch anything metal, plug the washer in. Start the washer in a drain cycle. If the washer drains and spins, you need to replace the lid switch.

Do not leave the bypass in place while you are waiting for the part. This is only for the test.

The instructions for replacing the lid switch are in the video provided.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:
