Code "FF" flashing on upright freezer.

Kenmore Elite Frost Free Heavy Duty Commercial Freezer: Model #253.24092102. Alarm sounded (chirp every 4 seconds) and "FF" began flashing. Turned off alarm and turned off Quick Freeze. After several hours FF stopped flashing yet alarm sounded again several hours later. Do we need to reset unit? Manual does not list code FF.

I apologize for the information, I sent you earlier. It pertains more to a refrigerator than a freezer. However, usually FF will pertain to a failed evaporator motor but in this case, it does indicate Fast Freeze. With a lot of freezers, just an "F" will appear for fast freeze. If there is little or no cooling at all taking place and the compressor is running, it would indicate a sealed system problem. A certified technician will be required to make this type of repair. You can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

A service tech was here and noted the freon is low due to a leak in the secured system. FF notation comes on when we push Quick Freeze meaning Fast Freeze. Apparently not a cheap fix and this company no longer does this type of repair, recommending another local company.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about this error code. I'm sorry you are having this problem. This error code Er FF indicates a problem with the evaporator fan motor but it can also be with the main control board. When the power cord is disconnected for 30 seconds and then reconnected, it resets the board. Sometimes this procedure corrects the problem and sometimes it does, for only a short period of time. Usually in this case, the main board will need to be replaced. First it needs to be determined if the fan motor is running or not. If the motor is still running, the main board, which is located behind the unit, will probably need to be replaced. However, this could still be a problem with the motor not sending a low voltage signal to the board. If the motor is not running, some voltage checks will need to be made to, determine if the motor has failed or if the board is not sending voltage to the motor. These are some difficult checks to make and the motor can be a difficult repair, which will require a technician. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a technician come out to check it. I know that it can be very frustrating to not have your appliances working properly. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I have found a link that may provide some information on the issue. The error code usually means that there is a fan failure. I would try unplugging the unit for a few minutes, then plugging it back in. This may solve the problem. I hope this helps.
