Error Code Er 1F on new Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

Got a new Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Refrigerator less than one month ago. P/N MFL62184-417, Model number 795.72053.110, serial number 107KR00736. Fridge will not dispense water or ice. Fridge still has power (obviously, or wouldn't display the error code). Still maintaining temperature. Ice dispenser is free of jams/clogs. Water supply valve is on. Dispenser still has ice in it. Worked just fine for the past 3 weeks, up until today. Has not been moved since initial install. Use & Care Guide has no info on error codes. Kenmore connect is not open 24/7. Any ideas? Thanks!

Charlie, try going the the Mange My Life home page and view the question that way and see if the image enlarges. Try a Goggle search for question 264983. If the image still does not enlarge let me know and I will try something else.

I just had my refrigerator fixed for the error code. It was $500.00 and they gave me 90. Day warranty.

I have the same problem and only been using my refrigerator 6 months. I purchased a whole house full of Sears Kenmore Elite appliances for the new house we built back in 1990 and ALL of that stuff except for the Microwave is running today...........no service calls for the past 20 years. I moved in our next NEW house in Febrary 2013 and once again I bought a whole house full of Kenmore elite appliances since I had such good service out of the purchases in 1990. NOW LESS THAN 7 MONTHS INTO THEIR USE I have a problem with the refrigerator. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "ELITE" TODAY IN ANY OF THE APPLIANCES, ANY BRAND............THEY ARE ALL TRASH........CHEAPLY MADE WITH PLASTIC AND LOW QUALITY PARTS. And on top of that these parts are made overseas by workers making 25 CENTS an hour. SO SEARS AND ALL THE OTHER BRANDS ARE GETTING THEIR PARTS MADE CHEAPER AND GETTING THE LABOR DONE CHEAPER AND STILL CHARGING EXTRA HIGH PRICES FOR NOTHING BUT A PIECE OF JUNK! I paid ALOT more for these appliances than I did in 1990 even taking in inflation. And yet I can't expect to get QUALITY appliances that will last at least a year with NO PROBLEMS! When I bought the appliances I asked the salesman would I get 20 years of service out of these appliances like I did my previous ones, he said no, you might get 6 or 7 years if you're lucky. THESE COMPANIES COULD STILL MAKE GOOD QUALITY APPLIANCES IF THEY WANTED TO, BUT THEY'D RATHER MAKE SOMTHING CHEAP AND WORTHLESS AND MAKE A HUGE PROFIT AND THEN SELL WE SUCKERS ANOTHER ONE IN 4 OR 5 YEARS. IT'S A SHAME AND A DISGRACE THAT AMERICAN COMPANIES WON'T PRODUCE QUALITY PRODUCTS FOR A DECENT PRICE ANYMORE. EVEN WHEN YOU BUY THE "ELITE" PRODUCTS, YOU'RE STILL GETTING LOW-QUALITY TRASH.

If I have the extended warranty on this refrigerator - will the revision kit be covered? Or is this deemed an out of warranty/out of pocket expense?

I also got the same error code. Repairman just left and said I need to replace the parts with a "revision kit". sears knows this is a problem but since its not a recall i have to pay for it since my refrigerator is 13 months old. not happy at all. waiting to see how much is going to cost. If sears know this is a problem and they have made a revision kit, I think they should pay for it. This is not the old sears from the past!

This apparently is a common enough problem with this model that there is now a "service flash". Sears recognizes there is a defect but they will not repair out of warranty without a service charge. I find this rediculous. If there is a known issue then it should be addressed at the expense of Sears. This was known about before my unit went out of warranty. They could have easily informed me and it could have been taken care of. This refrigerator is only 13 months old. If I can't get this taken care of by Sears then I am done. I purchased a range, dishwasher, washer and dryer the same day I bought the refrigerator. Nothing but frustration in dealing with Sears on this so far. Waiting on a call from a supervisor.

This particular problem would most likely be covered under warranty if the unit is under warranty.

Thanks, Fred. Yeah, I think we bought it last August. I have to find the paperwork. Is this type of issue usually covered? Thanks again.

John.

If you have a brand new refrigerator then call and schedule service. Some models had the control programming altered to allow a higher fan speed. There was no service flash but there was an improvement in the control.

Hi, Fred.

I seem to have the same problem as well. I wouldn't expect this type of issue with a new refrigerator. Is this a common problem that Sears is having with these Kenmores?

Thank you.

The Er IF error code indicates that the main control board detects that the ice compartment cooling fan is not working. This will cause a lack of cooling in the ice compartment and will normally result in no ice production. This is something that a service technician will usually need to correct.

If you are advanced in technical skills, you may be able to correct this problem yourself. It will require the removal of the inside back panel of the freezer compartment. This is not an easy task. I recommend that you review the procedure for this task that is shown in the image below.

Make sure that you are able to safely perform the tasks described before proceeding with this repair. Unplug the refrigerator to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website:

Thanks for the question.

I understand how difficult it is to understand what the meanings are to error codes. I have taken some time to research your question here on the Manage My Life website and I noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I attached the link below for you to view. I hope the link that I provided is helpful. Have a nice day.
