How do I install the torsion spring for my side discharge lawn mower?

I have a Craftsman 22" mulching mower with a side discharge that I recently inherited. The model # is 917.387470. The mulching plate was missing and I ordered one from Sears Parts. When installing I could not simply snap it on as it showed in the manual, so I had to remove the hinge pin and torsion spring. Now, for the life of me I cannot replace the torsion spring properly. I went to the store to see if they were the same type, but sure enough its a different style hinge pin and spring on the new models. Any suggestions? Diagrams or pictures would help. Thanks!

Sorry, but the link no longer works on that feed. Also, that is for a tractor and I have a 22" push mower. Thanks

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem installing the spring. It can be tricky to install spring. The reason is you have to hook the spring on the deflector first. Then tension the spring and hold it in position. While holding it you have to set the assembly onto the bracket and hold it there with one hand. Once you have it on the bracket slide the hinge pin through all of the parts. I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
