riding mower transmission trouble

i bought a craftsman riding mower back in 06 its either a ys 4500 or 5400 series mower it was the limited edition mower with the gold hood. it has the hydrostatic transmission it runs and moves fine til u used it a while then it will stop moving and once it sets for a minute it will move again but only for a little bit. im not sure whats wrong with it the tragtor itself runs fine

you might need to add gear oil in the transmission you said its a hydrostate trans sounds like the level of oil in gear case is low and wont allow tractor to move because not enough pressure in trans to allow it to run and move properly i would say gear oil will fix the problem let me know what you find out and we can proceed further if needed .hope this helps you can look up your manual if you dont have it just click manuals and put in your model number it should show you what kind of transmission fluid it takes and what weight to use to get the best performance let me know if you need further help with this issue good luck

you pu tthe gear oil/ motor oil in a tube leading to the transmission its located on the top left side under the tractor if you can remove the middle panel on the tractor its easier to get to if not you will have to find another way. the 20w50 is motor oil like you would put in a engine but it goes in transmission fill it up until its 1/2 to 3/4 to the top of the line and replace plug then see if it will move for you good luck
