Replaced Sony Wega lamp, but tv still does not work.

Hello. I have a Sony Grand Wega Model # kdf-50e2000. I replaced the lamp, but the Standby light flashes red 3 times. I referred to the owners manuel and chatted online with sony support, but I their suggestions did not help. I checked everything to make sure it was properly installed. I checked the lamp, the lamp cover, and the lamp door. When I turn on the tv, the fan starts and runs for 2-3 seconds, then it shuts off and the standby light flashes red 3 times. I took off the back panel of the tv set, and checked if the lamp cover connects to the sensor properly. It does. Do you think that the fan on the side of that unit could be the problem? It starts then shuts off after a couple seconds. The Standby light turns green at first, then after everything shuts off, it flashes red 3 times. It looks like it is easy to replace. I don't want to call a technician because they want to charge $99 just to come see if they could diagnose it.

Ok, so armed with this information I received here and with some info from a reputable tv repairman (Who suggested it might be the lamp door and din't want to take money to come out) I tried some different things. What I finally ended up doing is taking the lamp out. Taking the back cover off the lamp housing off. Expanding the spring load spring on the clips and reinstalled making sure to push it in and wiggle around a few times so the clip would properly latch and restarted the tv.
Bam! It works fine now.

Thank you very much Dusty J. I also tried to put the old lamp in to see if it would turn on, but that did not work either. But, I fixed it! :))) The problem was the Pcb assy (or board) Sears part number A1177123A. It is the sensor that makes sure the lamp is properly installed. It may have moved with the heat from the lamp. I took apart the back panel of the tv, and I moved the circuit board to see if I could see any other parts that might have a problem. What I saw was that the new lamp (and the old lamp), did not push the metal connector far enough to make a connection on the sensor. I put a few layers of electrical tape on the part of the lamp (plastic part) that pushes the connection to the sensor. The tv works like new :)

I just had an idea. Have you put the old lamp back in? If not, try that to see if you get the 3 blink error again if not then you might of just got a bad replacement lamp.

The only thing left is if the door or lamp switch was damaged somehow and that is resulting in 3 blink error. At this point I would recommend to have a technician to look at the TV to see what is going on.

Oh, and I reinstalled the lamp about 6 or 7 times. My husband also reinstalled it about 3 times.

Dusty J - Thank you for your response. There was no red blinking light before the lamp was replaced. I took a flashlight and looked at everything really good to make sure I was properly installing the lamp. Then I took the back panel of the tv off to see if I could make sure the lamp cover was making a good connection with the sensor. The connection was excellent. I don't know what else to do.

A fan error would result in the light blinking 4 times each. The 3 blink code is only for the lamp and lamp cover. Was there an error before the lamp was replaced? What were Sony recommendations? I would start with removing the lamp cover, and the lamp and then install the lamp again and put the lamp cover back on.
