I bought it used from someone so it prob is old. I found a manual online last night and it was 16:1 mixture. I got it to crank but while I was adjusting the idle/throttle I broke the rope on pull cord cranking it. So it must be old. thanks for the help

Eight ounces of oil per 1 gallon of gas is a 16:1 mixture. This was the common oil/gas mixture for 2 cycle engines in the 70's and 80's. If your chainsaw is old this is probably the correct mixture.

If you mix the oil heavy in the gas/oil mixture, the engine might smoke and occasionally foul a spark plug. The engine will run fine. If you mix the oil light, the engine will seize and stop running. I would go with what the instructions say.

No! Your unit is a 1:40 mix. That would be 3.2 oz per gal.
