Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener problem

by Manage My Life Last activity date:
November 9th, 2011

My craftsman garage door opener model 139.53675SRT2 will not go down all the way when I press the Control Console. The door goes down about 6 inches and the returns to the up position and the light blinks. If I hold down the Console button the door will close. The car remote open the door, but do not close it.

I noticed that both safety sensors lights are not on ( green color). I removed both wires that lead to the sensors form the main assembly. Doing this did not allow the door to close on it own.

Is the main power board gone bad, if so is it worth getting an new board? The opener is 13 years old.

Thank you.

The board will cost very close to what a new opener would cost. If the problem is the indeed the board, do keep that in mind.

If you hold down the wall control button does the door then go down? If so, check the sensors when the door is moving and see if they both stay lit and do not blink any at all (not even a slight flicker). If there is blinking then the sensors are not aligned close enough.

If the sensors do not appear to be the problem it is very likely that the board has failed.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

I wouldn't spend the money on a 13 year old opener. The board is expensive.
