sears kenmore oasis outer tub problem

i just installed a replacement outer tub (part number w10193886) on our Kenmore Oasis washing machine as the bearing was very noisy on my old part. Sears technician visited the house and quoted over $500 to replace so I ordered one myself.

LONG story short, the new tub has a bearing noise as well. I have disassembled the unit and can feel the bearing rubbing as though it is not lubricated. Contacted Sears Customer "service" and was told that since i am a "self-installer" I should have a technician come back out and troubleshoot. Obviously part is defective as I can feel and hear the bearing noise! What are my options??

Charles,

Lyle is taking some vacation time, I will be helping him for a few days.

The bearings for the Oasis washer have been redesigned recently. We are not aware of any issues with the new ones.

Thank you for the information. Just one more question if I may? Are the bearing in the kit #W10435302 for Sears Kenmore Elite Oasis washer model # 110.27086601 of better quality than the bearing the that were failing? Thank you.

The bearing kit part number is W10435302. I added a link to a previous answer that discusses that bearing kit. I do not have any information about the law suits that you are referring to. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

I replace the entire tub assembly on my Sears Kenmore Oasis. Model #110.27086601 about 15 months ago and the bearings have that infamous howl again. The bearings in the tub assembly are an engineering disaster! I know that Sears has class action lawsuits pending because of this. Due you have any updates as to the law suits? Also do you have the bearing kit number? It's nice to know that I can now change just the bearings and not the whole tub assembly. The washer was purchased in October of 2007. Thank you.

I am pleased to finally able to inform everyone that Sears refunded my money for the part. After repeated broken parts (the technician told me that 70 percent of the tubs arrive damaged). ANYHOW we are up and running with no noise or leaking...thanks to all your suggestions. Best of luck to all

Hello Keith. The outer tub houses that bearing and the outer tub had to be replaced to fix that problem up until recently. A new service procedure now has been implemented that provides for the replacement of that bearing without having to replace the entire outer tub assembly. The link for a previous answer provides information about that bearing replacement and the kit that is used for that repair. A technician will normally need to perform that repair. If the outer tub is damaged along with the bearing and that outer tub needs to be replaced, then that outer tube component part will probably be covered by the warranty if your model has a 10 year limited parts warranty on that outer tub. That model number that you provided does not appear to be valid. Most of the models that begin with 110.2706 . . . do have a 10 year limited parts warranty on the outer tub. You would have to pay for the technician's labor to diagnose and replace that outer tub (around $130 in most service areas). I recommend that you have a service technician examine and repair this washer failure since the bearing is probably bad. You can call Sears at 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME) to set up that service. If that bearing is the only component that is bad, then you will probably need to pay for the bearing kit (around $80) and the labor (around $130). If you need more help, reply with additional details.

i have a kenmore model # 1102706602 which has a outter tub bearing howl, I am seeing that the bearing itself can be replaced and may be under warranty. How do I know if it is warranted and if and how it can be replaced as well as the part # for the shaft and bearing

NOTE: There have been some improvements made in the service procedure for that outer tub bearing since this answer was posted. The outer tub bearing is now available as a separate component. It can be replaced using special tools that the Sears Service technicians now have been issued. The outer tub that is under a limited parts warranty no longer needs to be replaced when that bearing goes bad in many situations. That bearing kit costs around $80. The labor for the technician would cost around $140 (at this time). That labor would have been charged for the replacement of the outer tub even when the part was covered. This repair may wind up costing about $80 more than it would have when that previous answer was written. If the technician examines that outer tub and the entire tub needs to be replaced instead of just the bearing, then the tub would still be covered by the limited parts warranty. You would still need to pay for the labor of diagnosis and replacement (about $140 at this time). The technician is required to examine the tub and determine the parts that are needed and whether they are covered by the warranty. To repair that likely bearing failure, I recommend that you schedule service by a Sears Technician. You can call 1-800-469-4663 or click on the link that I provided below this response to schedule service.

According to your description, you are certain that the replacement outer tub has a bad bearing. I recommend that you arrange a return/exchange of that part through the parts department. Let us know if we can help you further with this return/exchange.

Reviewing other posts, I see that Mr. Fred M is suggesting that there is a 10 year warranty on parts for this machine. I paid Sears Service to send a technician two weeks ago and was informed that the warranty was for the stainless steel INNER tub only and I was on my own for a $500 repair..
