Furnace won't shut off

My furnace will not turn off. The temperature setting is set to 72F and I'm able to modify the setting so the digital display indicates the desired temperature, but the furnace doesn't shut off. Additionally, when I select the OFF switch on the thermostat, it doesn't respond. I had to go to the furnace and manually turn it off. What's up?

Thank you for your question on the furnace not shutting off.

If the thermostat will not shut off the furnace and you have to manually turn the furnace off then the relay that is operated by the thermostat is stuck in the on position by either a thermostat failure or a furnace relay failure.

Seeing that this is an Electric air handler then it sounds one of the heat sequencer relays have stuck on.

I would suggest that you have a furnace technician check out the unit.
