As the founder of Stress Free Kids I would suggest doing whatever you need to do to eliminate stress and worry. Each toddler brings their own set of of boundaries...some are afraid to touch the tree and others will try to climb it. My own brother once bit a glass ornament! OUCH! After that my mom put the tree in a playpen and we had a stress free Christmas from there on. For more tips to keep Holidays Stress Free visit

The base should be sufficient enough. I have never had a tree fall over and I raised 3 toddlers up at once. they are now 15 - 18 years old now. And I have grand kids now. The base has always held up christmas trees year after year. The bases sold now a days are better than the ones they used to make, they are very wide base. Hope this helps.
