The programming procedure will actually depend on the system the gate operator uses. That can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some of them program in via a computer program and others program in ways much like that of your garage door opener.
Your garage door opener is compact in that the opener (operator) and controller (remote system) are integrated into one unit. Many years ago they were not this way and the remote system was separate from the opener. Many gate and other controlled entry systems are still set up this way. This enables much freedom for the customer to have a certain brand operator (mechanical) and perhaps a different brand of controller (electrical). For instance, at my farm I have a very old Craftsman garage door opener and a DoorKing gate operator; I use a Linear radio system to control both of them.
If your community manager is unable to give you any information see if you can locate the remote antenna on the gate. It will sometimes be with the gate operator or at the "call box" (if there is one). Follow that antenna do it's control box and then write down the information from that little box. I would think the community manager would have access to that information and you won't have to poke around and look on your own. If you can tell me the type of radio the system uses, I will find the programming information.
