working out heavier

after a few months of regular working out I add in workouts with heavier weights - how long should I keep this up and is this a good workout plan?

During the forst 2 weeks of working out with weights, it's best to use a weight that you can peform 20 reps with without any discomfort. After 2 weeks try to use heavier weights and aim for 8-15 reps.
