Kenmore chest freezer, model #19502 Not freezing anymore

Kenmore chest freezer model # 19502 , stopped freezing, I can hear it click on but only for a few seconds clicks off again, green light is still flickering. What is wrong with it, less than a year old is there a reset button?

Joe, replacing the freezer would be the best idea. It is not economical to replace a compressor.

The same exact thing happened to me with the same model 19502. The freezer is less than 2 years old, and it just stopped working, ruining my 60 pounds of grass fed beef and lamb that I had bought from a farmer, while we were on vacation. The green light is on, but the freezer won't run, and every now and then it makes a faint humming noise as if something was unsuccessfully trying to start.

It is incredible that so many people who bought this freezer from Sears about two years ago are having the same problem. This is clearly a defect of the product, and I can't believe that Sears is not doing anything about it. It is not normal that dozens of people are complaining about the same issue on freezers 1.5 years old.

What am I supposed to do? After I've wasted almost $200 on a freezer and lost over $400 in meat, I still have to pay more money to take the freezer to the landfill, and then buy a new one? I used to buy most of my appliances from Sears, and I thought Kenmore was an okay brand, but after this I won't buy from Sears ever again.

I bought the same model 19502 in Jan 2011. It went out in Dec. 2012. The green light started flashing on and off and two weeks later- everything quit. I lost a lot of food also. My husband checked it out and sure enough, the compressor is getting power but not working. It clicks and hums but when the compressor doesn't kick on everything just shuts off. I will ask my husband to check the compressor start/relay overload and cross my fingers that it is the problem. I want to believe in Kenmore products but, they haven't had a good record in standing behind their products with me in the last four years.

So from what I have read so far, is that, not only are the Kenmore Models 19502 and 19702 not available any longer but they also have a compressor problem. I purchased my Kenmore model 19702 on 03/05/2011. While I was on vacation from Nov 7th to Nov 17th in Phoenix, Az. my compressor went out on my freezer. I had approximately $500.00 worth of food in it. A turkey, a ham, a couple of steaks, about 15 lbs. individually wrapped pkgs of ground beef, 6 chicken breasts, a box of popsicles not opened, 8 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, stewed tomatoes that I canned myself, frozen garlic bread, it filled up 3 lawn and garden garbage bags that I had to throw away. I still had 1/2 of a freezer I could have put things in. Getting ready for Thanksgiving and my Turkey was warm in the freezer, was going to put 3 pies in the freezer. So not only are they not energy efficient but the compressors break easily on them also. I think Kenmore should reimburse us for our losses. I will be calling Kenmore on 11/24/12 and voicing my complaint. Even if I had bought the warranty it would not have covered the compressor. Can't do anything with it now except throw it away because after being gone 10 days you can not get the rotten food smell out of it.

Thank you for the model number. The problem will be either with the compressor (major and expensive) or the start relay/overload ( minor/not to expensive) that starts the compressor. A technician will hook the compressor up and check it directly. For this reason I suggest you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. The click on. click off sounds you hear usually indicates a problem with the compressor or the compressor start relay/overload. A technician can check the compressor with a starter box. You would not be able to check the compressor but you might consider buying a relay/overload and taking a chance. The model number should have a 106/253 in front of the 19502 number. If you can provide a complete model number I may be able to provide you with a part number for the relay/overload. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. When you spend so much money on food it is a disappointment when you no longer have a freezer to cool your items. I researched your question and was able to find a couple helpful links that will provide you with information regarding your freezer not freezing. The information is specific to your model. I hope all goes well.
