Water heater makes clicking sound.

Water heater (Whirlpool EE3J40RD045V)sits out side of home in a shed which has a leak which falls on the water heater. I woke up one morning and there was no hot water (not surprised). When I press the red button on the water heater control panel it clicks but never comes on. I removed the cover of the upper heater element and found that it was full of water. I sponged out as mutch water as I could and let it dry out for a few hours. After turning the power back on I here a continuous clicking sound coming from the water heater control panel.

Thank you for your question. I know it's frustrating when the water heater stops working. Based on the information listed, this would indicate the water that leaked into the control board compartment has damaged the control board # 6910605. The clicking sound will be the relays in the board. If the reset will not work, it further leads to a failed board. The board is available at

searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/6910605/0042/159?pathTaken=directMatch&filterPart=&pop=flush&prst=0&shdPart=6910605&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch

. I would recommend having a technician check this first, to verify the board has failed. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website:

Sears Home Services

. I hope this will help you.
