Thank you for the update on the model of tractor and the engine spark module on this engine which has a locked position for the armature for the coil. I do not know what you mean by a weak spark because it is hard to view correctly without a spark checking tool.

If the fuel pump vacuum hose was melted and split, it will not pump any fuel into the carburetor.

If you get this problem repaired I think the engine should run. You may also want to replace the spark plugs.

Please let me know how the repair went.

The model # is 917.288611 and the engine is a 26 hp kohler engine with the courage pro name on it. After my husband tried to adjust the coil / module, spark adv part # 24 584 63-s gap now he can get a weak spark from both of the spark plug wires. The gap is not ajustable by the instructions to the .012 gap with a feeler gage.
The only other problem is the fuel pump short hose going fro the fuel pump straght down to the valves was cracked and melted and not holding press. The part # is 32 326 02-s I think they call it the fuel pump pulse hose or the Kit, Breather hose. Would that make the engine not start? Sincerely Thanks, Patricia

Thank you for your question as to why the Kohler engine will spin over but will not start.

Some models will have a relay that will let the engine spin but will kill the spark to the spark plug.

I will need to have your model number of the tractor to figure out if it is a relay or an engine spark module problem.

If you look at Wade B. information on the link that Anna T. gave you it should help you determine if the coil is good or bad.

Please let me know what you find out and if you need more information please include the model number of the tractor located under the seat.
