I have a RCA television model 42LA45RQ, and the screen has gone black, but I can still hear the sound.

What is wrong? How can I fix this without incurring a lot of cost. The TV was hooked up to an XBox 360 with an HDMI cord, and the screen will be on for 30 seconds and then the screen goes black.

backlight inverter. Looks like rca had solder issues on it and did not properly make this. the soldered wire stuck out to far and eventually works threw the insulator pad and arcs on the back of the screen (happened to mine as well.) easy fix, but hard to find these boards. tried emailing rca service center, but funny how all thier email addys for it just bounce back. I will never buy another RCA product

We've had the same problem and a family firend sent us to a comapny in Dallas which is servicing the power board.

They have a somewhat old-fashioned email exchange service, but it did the trick for us for $50.

The reason I am posting here is becuse they said they'd give us low price if we send other customers their way...so it's part of a bargain.

With the TV staying on and only the picture is going out then the problem could be a couple of different things.

First, turn the TV on and make sure you can hear the sound. Shine a flashlight on the screen and see if you can see any image (you should be able to). If you can see the image then the problem is the backlight system. Most common the problem would be the backlight inside the LCD panel. Some time it is the power being supplied to the backlight, but when you have the picture to start with it tends to be the LCD portion not the power.

If the picture only goes out and the screen is a gray tint not black like the TV is off then the problem could be the main video processing board. This is an uncommon issue.

Most common problems like this are the backlight that is part of the LCD panel. Unfortunately, replacement LCD panels are not available for your model.

I actually don't play video games with my XBox, as crazy as that seems. I use it as a DVD player. I won both the TV and XBox last year. Not a gamer at all. It goes black no matter what, if there are RCA cables or not.

This TV looks like it would be great for playing video games. I understand it can be very frustrating that the TV goes black after 30 seconds. I would be entrusting in knowing if the TV goes black if the XBOX 360 is not connected or if it goes black if connected using the RCA cables. I am adding the links below to help you with your question while you wait for your expert response. I hope this will help you get the TV working again.
