why does it take so long to preheat kenmore electric range?

It takes up to 30 minutes to preheat my kenmore electric range model #7909'9220211.Is this normal? The range is 18 months old.

Hello Al. I recommend that you post the model number of your range. The broil element will alternate with the bake element in the preheat mode of many ranges but it does vary by model. That broil element may only stay on for 15 seconds every minute or two at the start of the preheat mode. If you post that model number, we can try to check the programming on your particular range. If you have not checked that bake element for damaged, I recommend that you look at that issue as well.

I got exactly the same problem. I check and in broil position the upper element work fine but it dosn't work in preheat mode.

Is this cause by a defective programming of the electronic control?

That range has a hidden bake element so it will normally take longer to preheat than an oven with an exposed bake element. Check the broiler to make sure that the broil element is working in that mode. If the broil element heats properly and the oven eventually gets to the proper temperature and maintains it then you probably do not have a component failure.

If the broiler does not work or your oven does not maintain the set temperature then I recommend that you reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician examine the range, you can schedule service through this link:
