White 212-430-190 rototiller won't run fast or shutoff on stop

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

Not sure if this is the place to ask for White, but our rototiller won't run with the throttle on fast, it just sputters and stops running. But if we put it all the way back to stop it won't stop running, have to put it on fast for it to stop. The throttle cable does look worn but can still see the cable moving on the engine when you move the throttle. it's a brigs and stratton engine.

We got the throttle cable ours was part 746-0513, but they gave us 946-0513A it does say it replaces the old model number. But the end that hooks into the throttle control box is thicker (part that hooks into the throttle lever) then the old part. And the end that connects there under the gas tank is different then what our cable is. Our cable had a square end with a whole where the screw goes in to attach it. On the end of this new cable theres a spring then, well heres a picture of it. The end of our cable just has a little metal wire that hooks on then you secure it with the screw. But this cable has that big metal piece on the end that goes into the spring there. And not even sure where the big plastic part is supposed to go. So how is this ever supposed to replace our old throttle cable?

I do not have any photos or diagrams of how the throttle cable should be ran on this model. I'm not able to locate a manual for it to see if there may be anything in there showing it either. I'll keep looking and see if I can turn anything up that may help you out.

Now we had to order a new throttle cable. Are they anything showing just how that's supposed to go back on? The old throttle cable hangs out over the right tire a little then goes into the bottle hole on the handle bars and up to the throttle.

We got a new carburetor and put it on. It runs, but we didn't put the little plug in that your supposed to put gas on the end of it before you put it in. And also the throttle is still backwards, you put it on stop for fast and fast is stop. Our old throttle control was all plastic, this new one we got his a plastic box but the shaft is metal and then the handle is plastic. Our neighbor seems to think they gave us the wrong thottle control and that's why it's backwards. Is there anything we should do to the carburetor to adjust it?

Look on the carburetor itself and see if there is a brand name (walbro, Zama, etc...) listed. Some brands will have instructions online to repair the carburetor and some will not.

We got a carburetor repair kit. Are they any instructions on this? They did print a diagram of the carburetor but that was about it.

This sounds like there will be a problem with the carburetor. I recommend you remove the carburetor and clean it with carb/choke cleaner, which can be picked up at your local auto parts store. Any kind of carb/choke cleaner in a spray can will suffice to clean the carburetor out with. If you're not sure about cleaning out the carburetor, you may want to consider having the machine serviced by a professional or simply replacing the carburetor. You can click the link below and use the model number to order a replacement carburetor for your tiller.

I understand how it can be concerning with the tiller not properly working. I have done some research on the Manage My Life website and have located a link quite similar to your issue. While you are waiting for a detailed reply from an expert I have provided the link below. Hope this helps!
