Control knob seems to be defected,
when the cycle that starts the wash is selected it will not do anything.

If the washer will drain and spin then the motor is likely okay. I suspect the timer is at fault. If the washer will spin then a timer or motor problem might be the reason but it should still fill with water. One way to confirm the problem is with a meter to check voltage on the violet wire at the water level switch. With the timer turned on then there must be 120 volts on the violet wire on the water level switch. I hope this helps. You can reply with additional details for futher assistance.

I'm having the same problem with my Kenmore elite washer 110.23022101. The only cycle that works is the spin cycle. If it's the timer would the spin cycle still work. Could the problem be the water inlet valve?

If the washer will not fill or run then the timer is the most likely cause of this problem. to verify the problem you would need a meter to check and verify voltage at the violet wire on the water level switch. If the washer will not spin, fill, agitate or drain and the outlet is okay then the timer is the most likely cause of the problem. Let me know if you have a meter and we'll discuss the next step.

I did some research for you on your model washer but was not able to find an answer. It may be the timer. Your expert will help answer your question. It may take 24-48 hours. I do that everything works out with the washer.
