Washer fills with water but doesn't agitate.

I have a Kenmore 500 series. The water fills and then nothing. I have filled the machine (with no clothes) and the water fills according to size but then nothing happens. I moved the switch to the rinse cycle and nothing happens. I move the switch to the spin cycle and it works, it releases the water and it starts to spin and goes through the motion. Any ideas?

I have the same model washer and it too is having a similar problem.
It will fill with water and then hum. Move it to any other location on the dial and it just hums. I've tested the lid switch and the water level switch. I need to figure out how to test the timer and the motor.

The model number is 110.29522800. Once the machine fills with water in the wash and rinse cycle it starts making a humming sound and doesn't do anything. I can turn the agitator by hand to the left and right. Again, once I switch to spin cycle it goes through the cycle properly.

Thank you for submitting your question. You could be experiencing an issue with drive motor coupling, lid switch, or timer. For further assistance with your washer, pleaser provide the complete model number for your Kenmore unit. The model number will be located on the interior door or along the opening frame. Kenmore washer model numbers start with a 110, 417, 796, or 402 prefix. It will be followed by a period and eight other numbers. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
